Hi fattyharbuckle - welcome to the site :) Yes I recently read a post on here about burning feet, but I'm afraid I can't remember which one it was. I haven't experienced this myself, but am susceptible to tingling feet.

Do you have your thyroid blood test results (and ranges)? If so it would be a good idea to post them on hear, as this will help us to be more helpful to you.

Thanks,

Clare xx

Goodness your TSH was very high and your fT3 very low back in January :( You must have felt dreadful. I woYnder why they didn't test your fT4 to start with fT4?

Your TSH has come down, but is still too high, and your fT4 is too low. Most people feel better when their TSH is under 1, not just in range, and fT4 is at the top of the range. Has your doctor increased your thryoxine after these latest results (I hope so) and how are you feeling, apart from the burning feet? xx

Dreadful is something of an understatement! I was literally on automatic pilot over Christmas and New Year, and I felt like a zombie. For a few months at the end of 2012 I was just going downhill fast, and on top of that I had my disabled parents (aged 92 and 88) to care for.

My mother was seriously ill at that time and was in hospital / nursing home for 3 months, so EVERY DAY, I went to visit her. Mum sadly passed away in March this year.

I was started on Levothyroxine at 50, and in March it was increased to 100. It hasn't yet been increased again. but I'm due for another retest in 8 weeks time.

I have to say that I am feeling better than I did, BUT....this may seem silly.......... I think that this has been coming on for longer than I realise, and I possibly don't realise what it's like to feel 'normal' now!

I do feel very tired still, I have been on Citalopram antidepressant for a few months, and I think they have helped a lot. I have just halved the dosage though, because I don't want to become dependent on them. (With Dr's permission) He says that if I need to increase them again, he will amend prescription again.

Well, thanks for listening! If I rant on any more YOU will need the antidepressants.

if your thyroid is low you will be depressed, the slightest thing could set it off. Your mum being ill, and then dying, was very very awful for you and anyone could get depressed going through that, sorry for you loss. I hope the thyroid is sorted soon. If normal levo doesn't seem to work as, your gp for ndt

Yes, I had boiling, burning feet for quite a long time, I asked several of my very good consultants but not the Endo! It was diabetes, it was very severe before I realised, GP always useless at diagnosis any way Diabetes starts with similar symptoms to thyroid disease, autoimmune and hormonal. can be quite vague symptoms, mine suddenly got extremely serious. Have a test for Glucose and the better Hb1Ac. Afterwards I discovered a common symptom of Diabetes, of course it can presumably be other hormonal symptoms but certainly worth making sure. I am sure you know that with one autoimmune disease others are very likely.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jackie, thanks very much for your reply.

Please see my reply to Clarebear (and my blood results ) It would appear that you hit the nail on the head with your Diabetes theory. I haven't actually been diagnosed with it, but will need to check out with Dr. I THINK he is waiting for the Hypothyroid to stabilise.

It appears that the Burning Feet syndrome is a symptom of BOTH UAT and Diabetes.(wonder if that means they get twice as hot !!!! - it certainly seems that way at the moment.

thanks again,

Heather.

Hi Heather,

I hope it means things will get better for you. It does take ages for thyroid to be under control but it will be and the other conditions. My Diabetes was just horrific before i diagnosed it. Then I was meant to go straight into hospital. No one seemed to realise although I had lots of risk factors, under weight though I hope everything improves soon for you. Hormonal problems do rather creep up on us, you will realise how terrible things were when everything improves. If you do not feel Ok in a while, be sure to find a good Endo and ask for a referral. You can buy cold sprays ( water) from Boots, cold water filled pads from on line, mainly sold for menopause but help with boiling feet anyway.Even jut hanging the feet out of the duvet helps. I always have a vision of people everywhere in TUK putting their feet out of the duvet!

very best wishes,

Jackie

Amongst other things, burning feet can be a symptom of hypothyroidism and vitamin B12 deficiency. If you're lucky, it may resolve once thyroid treatment is optimised. If not, this article provides a useful summary to take to a GP to request further investigation:

Thanks RedApple.

I think I need to book an hour long appointment with GP next time !

Please also see my reply to Clarebear - above

Until my mother passed away in March, I just didn't have time to be ill, or to go to the Doctors. Isn't it just typical that 'when the pressure is off' these conditions come along? I must have just been on automatic pilot for so long..

thanks again, regards

Heather

Get a digital thermometer

take your temperature as soon as you wake up, before you get up, every morning for a month

If your base temperature is over 98 you're hot.. if it's lower than 97.5 you're sure as eggs is eggs Hypo... Burning feet is not an indicator of anything except... burning feet...
